The upcoming BioHouston annual luncheon, Bringing Research to Life, will feature the new Texas A&M President, Dr. Elsa Murano, as our speaker. Research, particularly in the rapidly expanding life sciences, is the cornerstone in Texas A&M’s quest to become a top-10 public institution by 2020. The impact of this aggressive initiative by the Aggies is far-reaching, as well as critical in expanding the intellectual capital of the state.

Dr. Murano began her professorial career in 1990 as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Preventative Medicine at Iowa State, the position she held prior to joining the Texas A&M faculty. She received a bachelor's degree in biological sciences from Florida International University, and earned both a master's degree in anaerobic microbiology and a doctorate in food science and technology from Virginia Tech. Dr. Murano is the first woman and first Hispanic-American to lead the oldest public institution of higher learning in Texas—now one of the largest teaching and research universities in the nation.

Proceeds from the luncheon will benefit BioHouston’s initiatives to build the region’s biotech industry, creating medical breakthroughs that will transform health care, improve lives, and create economic growth.

Lee Grindheim is one of the nation’s foremost experts on reimbursement providing strategic reimbursement planning for medical device, pharmaceutical, and biotechnology companies. Ms. Grindheim is a recognized expert in health care reimbursement (Managed Care, Medicare, and commercial insurance). She has initiated and managed comprehensive national policy development efforts and served as a liaison between physicians and institutional providers, and third party payers, both public and private. She has designed and delivered reimbursement training for physicians, hospital administrators, and marketing and sales personnel. Ms. Grindheim has nearly 30 years of experience in the healthcare industry, where she served as Director of Reimbursement for NDO Surgical and Executive Director of Consulting Services for Cardinal Health Reimbursement Services. She also served as the Managed Care Director for DuPont Merck and the Director for the Office of Economic Affairs for the American Psychiatric Association.
