Congressman Erik Paulsen (R-MN-03)
Representing Areas Surrounding Minneapolis
Minnesota’s 3rd Congressional District is made up of a large portion of the western suburbs of Minneapolis and Saint Paul and includes portions of Hennepin and Anoka counties. Some attractions in the 3rd district include the Mall of America, Lake Minnetonka, the Minnesota Vikings training facility and a few miles of the Mississippi River. There are also numerous medical device companies located in his district. Congressman Paulsen has been serving the district since January 3, 2009.
The Congressman serves on the House Ways and Means Committee and within this committee he is on the Subcommittee on Oversight, the Subcommittee on Human Resources and the Subcommittee on Select Revenue Measures.
Paulsen received his B.A. in mathematics from St. Olaf College, and prior to serving in the United States Congress, he worked gained years of business experience, including working as a business analyst at Target Corporation. He then served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1995 to 2008, including four years as the Majority Leader.
While serving in Congress, Paulsen has championed policies supporting the life science industries, particularly the medical device sector. He serves as Co-Chair of the House Medical Technology Caucus, and is the lead sponsor of legislation to repeal the medical device excise tax. He has also introduced legislation to streamline the FDA regulatory process for medical devices.
Congressman Paulsen resides in Eden Prairie with his wife, Kelly, and four daughters, Cassie, Briana, Tayler and Liesl.
