Are you interested in learning how your small business can tap into the resources of the National Cancer Institute (NCI)? Lead your small business in taking its innovations to the next level in the fight against cancer. The Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Programs are two of the largest sources of early-stage technology financing in the United States. Learn how the NCI's SBIR and STTR Programs can work for you.

At this event the NCI will share a list of 18 new oncology contract topics that will be solicited in mid-August. NCI will also discuss in detail the new SBIR Bridge Award Program which more than triples the amount of funding available to applicants through the NCI SBIR Program. The new Bridge Award is designed to support the next stage of development for previously funded NIH SBIR Phase II cancer therapy and imaging projects.

The Phase II Bridge Award will help:

“Bridge” the funding gap, known as the “Valley of Death,” that currently exists between the end of the SBIR Phase II award and the next round of financing needed to advance a promising cancer therapy or imaging technology toward commercialization;
Incentivize partnerships between NIH's SBIR Phase II awardees and third-party investors and/or strategic partners.

Additional Funding Opportunities
The NCI SBIR & STTR Programs have a number of upcoming funding announcements for prospective Phase I, Phase II, and Bridge Award applicants. The next application deadlines are August 5, September 19, and September 24. [Learn more]

This event will also include practical advice on strategies for developing successful applications for SBIR and STTR funding. Entrepreneurs and researchers in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries who want to learn about funding available through the NCI SBIR and STTR Programs are encouraged to attend.

To participate in the SBIR Program:

The Small Business Concern (SBC) must be an organized for-profit business of 500 employees or fewer (including affiliates), located in the United States
The SBC must be:
- At least 51 percent U.S.-owned by individuals and independently operated; OR
- At least 51 percent owned and controlled by another for-profit business concern that is at least 51 percent U.S.-owned by individuals and independently operated
The Principal Investigator's primary employment must be with the SBC at the time of award and for the duration of the project period
